Virtual reality (VR) building information modelling (BIM) solution designer Resolve announced on Wednesday it had enhanced its platform to port construction project data into the virtual world.
By doing so, the company allows its clients to explore physical buildings before laying the foundation in the real world.
The company’s platform operates on the market-leading Meta Quest headsets, allowing users to retrieve and tour “2D drawings, dashboards, and issue databases” to review 3D models in virtual environments.
Using the platform’s App Portal, construction teams can identify and tackle concerns with BIM-based designs. This provides designers with “immediate access to critical information from 2D data sources” whilst still collaborating with teammates in the virtual world.
Additionally, Resolve provides Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Autodesk BIM 360, Newforma Konekt, and Procore integrations for its App Portal platform, where users can work with their current projects.
Designers can also seamlessly toggle VR to 2D monitors to condense and streamline workflows, significantly boosting workplace efficiency.
Finally, the can work with their virtual teammates by sharing, pinning, and displaying 2D screenshots to teammates in VR.
Angel Say, Chief Executive, Resolve said although his company was committed to innovating solutions for construction, 2D data still held “an important place in the industry.
He continued,
“This new feature allows our users to fully leverage all their project data, leading to better decision-making and increased project efficiency.”
Dave McCool, Director of Product, Procore added that his company’s integration into the Resolve platform empowered project teams to “leverage Procore data like never before.”
Concluding, he said,
“”The enhanced integration of Procore into Resolve’s application empowers project teams to leverage Procore data like never before.
“This integration supports project coordination and stakeholder engagement with critical project data in a whole new way, within Resolve’s virtual experience.”
Speaking further on the interoperability between the 2D and 3D, Antony Roy, Product Expert, Newforma explained further about his enterprise’s collaboration with Resolve.
“Action items and documents stored in Newforma Konekt can be reviewed alongside immersive 3D models, enabling early identification and resolution of potential issues in the project lifecycle.”
Siemens Transform Showcases Immersive AEC Solutions
The news comes after the Siemens Transform event in Manchester, where D×M spoke to Doug Brown, Company Pre-Sales Digital Solutions Consultant, to discuss how BIM and Architectural, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) firms could empower workflows with XR.
Speaking about aerospace companies like Aeralis, he noted that, not only could AEC specialists prototype their designs in the industrial metaverse, they could also simulate and resolve pre-production issues on the fly.
At the time, he explained that Siemens’ Simcenter STAR-CCM+ solution could simulate airflows for computer-aided design (CAD) models, allowing users to “really immerse themselves in the virtual environment and learn how their products will perform at the early digital stages.”
A separate demo at the event highlighted a collaboration between Siemens’ NX platform, Sony, and the Briggs Automotive Company (BAC), detailling the utility of industrial metaverse solutions for designing, colloborating on, and showcasing automobile prototypes with shareholders.
