PICO XR and Intel have teamed up for an immense virtual reality (VR) gaming challenge, it was reported on Friday.
Media reports revealed that the two tech giants opened registrations for the PICO x Intel VR Sports Ultimate Championship. The massive event is set to lead up to an eSports match at Beijing’s Bird Nest Stadium.
According to the tournament website, entrants across Europe can compete in two categories — the All-in-One Sports VR and TempoClub challenges — to fight for the top immersive sports prize.
The former will feature a host of sports like boxing, volleyball, basketball, football, racquetball, archery, table tennis, and others. However, the latter will allow contestants to compete in bespoke challenges set by the event.

The venue is famous for hosting the 2008 Olympics and features cutting-edge technologies for hosting global sporting events.
The tournament launches on 17 October, where three players will receive cash, prizes, and other perks for reaching the top spots in the competition.
Events will take place using PICO XR headsets, and the company will provide weekly ranking data score updates to track player performance across the three-week-long challenge.
PICO Enters the Ring with Meta’s Quest 3
D×M understands that the PICO XR event aims to demonstrate its headsets full capabilities, including connectivity, compute, and receptivity from some of the world’s most elite gamers.
Both PICO XR and Intel aim to showcase remote gaming in the eSports space, which is set to reach a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.59 percent and projected market volume of $5.9bn by 2029, Statista figures show.
For example, Pico’s flagship headset, the Pico 4 Ultra, offers users a competitive device compared to the Meta Quest 3, including:
- Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen2 Processor
- Ultra high-definition 4K+ displays with 4320 x 2160 resolutions
- 12 GB RAM
- 32 MP cameras, Stereo video passthrough cameras, and depth sensors
- PCVR streaming capabilities or standalone apps
The news comes after Meta announced at the Meta Connect event in September the release of its budget-friendly complement to the Quest 3, the Quest 3s.
The two devices are projected to remain market leaders in mixed reality (MR) gaming, enterprise use cases, and spatial productivity.
However, shortly after the Quest 3 debut in October 2023, the PICO 4 Ultra’s release last month has significantly raised the stakes in XR market.
The announcement comes just a day after EE opened a retail experience centre at London’s iconic Westfield shopping mall, where customers can demo some of the top headsets, smart glasses, and devices on the network carrier’s leading 5G network in the UK.
