The Nihon XR Center in Tokyo, Japan announced this week the development of a major extended reality (XR) development project for the Tokyo Dome Corporation.

In a bid to promote “XR implementation at the best value,” the Nihon XR Center has taken a two-pronged approach to expanding its business.

It will firstly adopt XR games, attractions, and solutions for its primary business and training solutions for larger enterprises, it explained.

Both the Nihon XR Center and the Tokyo Dome have incorporated advanced XR technologies to merge digital creative content, demos, and entertainment with real-world environments.

The news comes as the two firms demoed a joint exhibition at the Augmented World Expo Asia from 26 to 28 August.

To date, the Nihon XR Center hosts offices in the United States, Japan, and India.

Tokyo Dome City, one of Japan’s top attractions, hosts major shopping, amusement, video game, and other attractions in the country. It has served as a longstanding venue for global baseball tournaments and the home of the Yomiuri Giants since its commencement in 1988.

Additionally, the City kicked off a series of environmental and technological refurbishments in January 2023, following a massive upgrade of the Tokyo Dome in March 2022, the Mitsui Fudosan Group explained in a press release.

The news comes as entertainment venues adopt highly-immersive XR technologies over the last few years. One of the most notable of its kind is the Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Developed by XR firm Populous and revealed to the public by the Madison Square Garden (MSG) Company, it hosts massive spherical LED displays with 16K resolutions, 4D experiences, beamformed spatial audio, and other amenities for a total of 18,600 to 20,000 people.

D×M plans to reach out to both venues for more detailled coverage of its immersive technologies.
